Over 46,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Gwoza Taking refuge in 9 villages. 15,000 in Government Camps-- Bishop William Naga

No fewer than 16,000 persons from Gwoza local government areas in Borno are now refugees due to the insurgency in the communities.

Mr Williams Naga, the chairman board of trustee of Gwoza Christian communities, disclosed this while presenting food items donated by the state government to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s), in Maiduguri.


Naga said that over 46,000 IDP’s from Gwoza were currently taking refuge in nine different villages, while 15, 000 were staying in government camps.

He explained also that about 16,000 displaced persons from Gwoza were currently taking refuge in seven camps in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC).

The Chairman said that Governor Shettima had given N10 million for the up keep of the IDPS in the state capital and N2 million to facilitate the transportation of those in Cameroon.

Also speaking, Mr Haruna Amodu, the distribution committee chairman said out of the N10 million, N6 million was spent on the procurement of food stuff for the IDP’s.
