Boxing Day Review: Chelsea stay top, City and United win

Terry-West Ham Dec2014

Chelsea maintained their three-point lead at the top of the Premier League, with a comfortable 2-0 win over West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day.

John Terry scored his second goal of the week, tapping in Diego Costa’s cushioned header. Costa himself settled the game in the second half with a fine finish.

Manchester City completely battered West Brom in the first half at the Hawthorns, scoring three unreplied goals through Fernando, Yaya Toure and David Silva. Brown Ideye’s
late goal was merely a consolation strike.

In other games, Manchester United beat Newcastle 3-1, Liverpool won 1-0 away at Burnley, Southampton humbled Crystal Palace 3-1 and Hull City came from behind to defeat Sunderland 3-1.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s free-kick proved to be the winner, as Swansea beat Aston Villa 1-0, Stoke City won 1-0 away at Everton and Leicester City lost 1-2 to Tottenham Hotspurs.
